Dom Hemingway (15)
Directed by Richard Shepard
3 Stars
Jude Law strides like a colossus through this as the foul-mouthed and larger-than-life safe-cracker Dom Hemingway, who has spent 12 years behind bars for his crime boss.
The film opens with a naked Law delivering a lengthy ode to his genitalia, which sets the tone for what is to follow.
Once out of jail he travels with his devoted best friend Dickie (Richard E Grant) to see his former boss Mr Fontaine (Demian Bichir) in the south of France to claim his reward.
Law, who apparently "let himself go" for the role, is a force to be reckoned with as the verbose and anger-ridden Hemingway who becomes totally out of control as he makes up for lost time.
Grant is excellent as Law's comic foil but there is no doubt that this is the latter's film as he delivers his best performance to date in this surreal comedy drama.
