A selection of curios

WINTER SPORTS: The International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation showed it’s not frosty towards gender equality yesterday, allowing women and men to compete together in the four-man competition.

FIBT president Ivo Ferriani said: “We follow the spirit and movements of our time.”

Two-time Olympic gold medallist Kaillie Humphries has already declared a desire to pilot a four-man sleigh.

The change will take effect from next season, though qualifying criteria for the 2018 Winter Olympics are still under discussion.

MOTORSPORTS: Brabham is attempting to make an eventual return to Formula One with the marque being relaunched using a new model of “open-source racing.”

David Brabham, son of brand founder Jack, aims to use crowd-funding to see the return of the name that last appeared in 1992.

Brabham will initially return to the track next year for the World Endurance Championship.

FOOTBALL: US investment firm Cain Hoy is no longer interested in buying Tottenham Hotspur, it told the London Stock Exchange yesterday.

Spurs had tried to distance itself from the bid after Cain declared its interest without the club’s consent earlier this month — reports had suggested that owner Joe Lewis was willing to listen to offers of £1 billion.

FOOTBALL: Cardiff looked set yesterday to appoint Russell Slade as new manager before their weekend game against Sheffield Wednesday.

Slade tendered his resignation from Leyton Orient late on Wednesday after the O’s repeatedly rebuffed approaches from the Bluebirds.

Kevin Nugent was appointed caretaker manager at Brisbane Road yesterday.
