Talk of Floyd Mayweather Jnr facing Amir Khan at Wembley

Rumours circulate that the US champ fancies a pop at the Brit hitter

Unsurprisingly, Floyd Mayweather Jnr has made it known in the aftermath of the huge event at Wembley involving Carl Froch and George Groves that he would like to fight there himself.

The word is that the current pound-for-pound world champion envisions sharing a ring with Britain’s Amir Khan at Wembley next summer, which if it comes to pass will be a must-attend event for every fan of the sport.

That said, I wouldn’t be prepared to place a bet on a Mayweather v Khan clash attracting 80,000 spectators as the Froch v Groves rematch did last month.

British boxing thrives on domestic rivalries and though undoubtedly the undefeated Mayweather is the sport pay-per-view king, being able to attract 80,000 ticket-paying customers to Wembley Stadium for a fight is no mean achievement and unlikely to be repeated anytime soon.

Still, if Mayweather does come to Wembley to fight against Khan, it is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience.

Let’s hope we see it.
