Only Lovers Left Alive

As a chilly vampire film, Jim Jarmusch's Only Lovers Left Alive refreshes one of the most worn-out genres in cinema.

It tells the tale of Detroit-based Adam (Tom Hiddlestone), a reclusive vampire rock star who spends his money buying fresh blood from a dealer who happens to be a doctor working in the local hospital.

Adam's lover Eve (Tilda Swinton) returns from Tangier to a relationship in crisis, due to the fact that she has just had an affair with her "dealer" Marlowe (John Hurt).

Subsequent events are underpinned by an air of sexual tension and a pervasive sense of loneliness.

A film that confirms Jarmusch as a top director, it's essential viewing.
