Slave labour will continue with the Tories in power

Theresa May’s lamentable performance on the BBC Today programme yesterday gave the lie to any notion that the Modern Slavery Bill signals a turn to humane and enlightened governance.

There will be no let-up in the remorseless campaign against super-exploited immigrants.

They comprise most of Britain’s estimated 15,000 slave labour force, although that figure is surely a gross underestimate given the extent of trafficking for prostitution.

The Home Secretary repeatedly refused to offer an amnesty or safe haven to victims who decline to come forward for fear of prosecution or deportation.

She is proud of recent changes in visa regulations which tie immigrant workers tighter to abusive employers, even boasting of harsher immigration rules to come.

The continuation of slave and bonded labour in modern Britain is guaranteed with the Tories and Lib Dems.
Will a Labour government be any different?
