AIR SAFETY: A US military helicopter in which four crew were killed after crashing on the north Norfolk coast was brought down by bird strikes, officials said yesterday.

The HH-60 Pave Hawk helicopter, operating out of RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk, crashed near Cley-next-the-Sea on January 7 during a routine training exercise.

The birds had smashed through the windscreen and knocked the pilot and co-pilot unconscious.

HISTORY: TV treasure Tony Robinson threw his weight behind a campaign yesterday to rescue Britain’s lost canals.

The campaign calls on people to rediscover and resurrect thousands of miles of derelict canals that played a big part in the industrial revolution.

As part of the campaign the Canal & River Trust, which cares for 2,000 miles of working waterways in England and Wales, is publishing an online map.

RACISM: Reports and comments on Muslims by the media and politicians are like the portrayal of Jews in nazi Germany, a Labour MP said yesterday.

Yasmin Qureshi said very similar words to those used in nazi anti-Jewish propaganda were being used against Muslims in Britain.

She claimed 99.9 per cent of coverage in newspapers and on TV is anti-Muslim, with “complete lies” published on front pages.
