Gold feather in Kaep as QB signs $126m deal

Colin Kaepernick has become the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history after agreeing an obscene six-year $126 million (£75.25m) contract extension with the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday.

Of that $126m, $61m (£36.4m) is guaranteed money for the 26-year-old who will now earn $645,000 (£385,212) a week.

Under his previous deal, Kaepernick was entitled to $4.1m (£2.4m) over four years and would have earned less than $1m (£597,000) in 2014.

But he now stands to earn $12.75m (£7.6m) instead as well as $100,000 (£60,000) in a workout bonus.

Speaking about his new deal he said: “The only thing I can say is I’m going to work to make sure I’m worth every penny of this.”

The quarterback led his side to the 2012 Superbowl and general manager Trent Baalke was quick to praise his superstar.

He said: “Colin’s hard work and dedication have played an integral role in the recent success of the 49ers organisation.

“His work ethic, leadership and on-field production have positively influenced our team and we look forward to his continued growth in all areas.”
