Broad out of opening ODIs with knee injury

Stuart Broad is targeting an England return against Sri Lanka in the first test match of the summer after confirming he will miss the one-day international series with a knee injury.

A niggling knee injury has delayed the all-rounder’s start to the season, which he hopes will take place for Nottinghamshire in the County Championship match with Durham, which begins on May 25.

He also aims to play at Sussex before taking his England place on June 12 at Lord’s.

“Hopefully I’ll play the seven back-to-back Test matches and then the one-day series against India,” said Broad.

“I’m due to play the Championship game for Notts on May 25 against Durham, hopefully to prove I’m ready to go for the Test match in June.”
