Film: Escape Plan (15)

A preposterous plot full of intricate twists and turns but still enormous fun

Escape Plan (15)

Directed by Mikael Hafstrom

4 Stars

Watching iconic action stars and former rivals Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger finally kicking ass together for two hours on the big screen is a guilty pleasure.

The pair are formidable and have great onscreen chemistry in this action-packed thriller directed by Mikael (The Rite) Hafstrom.

Stallone plays Ray Breslin, the globe's leading authority on prison security, who gets paid to break out of jails and then tells the owners where they went wrong.

When he is hired by shady US government types to escape from The Tomb - the most secret and secure prison in the world, which makes Guantanamo look like an open prison - he finds he has finally met his match.

But all is not as it appears and Breslin enlists the help of fellow inmate Rottmayer (Schwarzenegger) to execute his escape plan.

It is a preposterous plot full of intricate twists and turns but it is enormous fun.

Stallone and Schwarzenegger, who gets to speak in German for once, seem to be having a blast along with their supporting cast which includes Jim Caviezel, Sam Neill, Curtis "50 Cent" Jackson and Vinnie Jones.
