Journalists at the NUJ delegates meeting yesterday voted to support a campaign seeking truth and justice for all miners victimised by police at a Yorkshire plant.
The Orgreave Truth and Justice campaign was launched 18 months ago in support of miners who were victimised and falsely arrested by police at the plant in South Yorkshire in June 1984.
Campaign spokeswoman Barbara Jackson told conference how the incident saw 95 miners arrested and charged with riot, which carried a potential life sentence, but the trials subsequently collapsed due to lack of evidence.
Delegates instructed the national executive council to support the campaign by making donations, lobbying MPs and writing letters calling an inquiry into the policing of miners.
They also agreed to back the campaign’s launch statement which calls for a public inquiry.
