Robin Hood to run away with the loot at Lingfield

FARRINGDON casts his expert eye over the weekend's meets

The flat arena takes over from the jumps this weekend with the highlight being the Winter Derby over a mile and a quarter at Lingfield Park at 3.50. I fancy a shock here in the form of Robin Hoods Bay.

He didn't get the run of the race last time out when behind Grandeur in the trial event over course and distance.

Although he doesn't possess the class of the winner there is every reason to believe he can hit the frame at the very least with a clear round down the home stretch.

Last year's winner Farraaj was out of his depth in California last time out, but we know he has a really good record when fresh.

And despite being drawn wide in stall nine - by the way, Grandeur is in 14 - he is feared along with the Jeremy Noseda-trained favourite.

It is a cracking card all round at the Surrey track and I think the next best bet of the day is in the lucky last courtesy of Nautilus.

I think we have yet to see the very best of the John Gosden charge.

His recent second behind Blue Wave arguably represents a career best effort and should have sharpened him up for this before he takes in some Group races this coming turf season.

Earlier on I shall be having a punt on Ladies Are Forever to reverse recent course and distance form with Iptisam in the Listed event she won last year at 2.40.

The six-year-old had to race wide that day and is sure to have come on a bundle for the run as she normally does. I make the front-running Addictive Dream a bigger danger if he gets loose on the lead under Tony Hamilton.

In the other races, it will be interesting to see if Mondlicht can transfer his progressive Fibresand form to the Polytrack in the class two handicap at 5.00, while Thecornishcowboy is handicapped to land the opener at 2.10.

Over at Kelso there are two cracking prizes up for grabs with Gullinbursti set to defy top weight and a very fair mark of 142 after getting stuck in the mud in the Skybet Chase at Doncaster last time out.

The drying ground is a problem for top weights Lie Forrit in the class two staying handicap hurdle at 2.30 and of greater interest has to be Lackamon.

Rated lower over hurdles than fences, this is his time of the year on ground that suits.

There was plenty to like about his comeback run behind Wayward Glance at Newcastle, although I thought a 5lb penalty for that second was a bit harsh.
