Brazil owe fans one last hurrah after semi defeat

by Michelle Jones

Netherlands’s manager Louis van Gaal may have called this tie pointless but the third-placed play-off offers Brazil the chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of their fans.

Their 7-1 humilation at the hands of Germany needs to be rectified and the hosts need to put in a performance their fans can be proud of.

David Luiz (left) may get the chance to show the world that he is worth at least half of the £50 million fee that PSG have paid Chelsea for his services but he is not the only one.

Fred, Oscar, Bernard and Marcelo to name a few have not covered themselves in glory over the past few weeks and will need to turn up tonight in order to be in Luis Felipe Scolari’s plans for the future.

Sao Paulo coach Muricy Ramalho and former Brazil and Real Madrid manager Vanderlei Luxemburgo are rumoured to be lining up to takeover from the former Chelsea manager after the tournament.

For their opponents, tonight is a chance to say goodbye to Van Gaal who will officially start in his role as the Manchester United manager next week.

It may also be the last time the Oranje see the likes of Dirk Kuyt and Ron Vlaar who are on the wrong side of 30 and new manager Guus Hiddink may decide to steer away from some of the older players in the Euro 2016 qualifiers.

Robin van Perie is likely to be rested and Van Gaal may also choose to give Arjen Robben, Nigel de Jong and Bruno Martins Indi the night off with all three players impressing throughout the last few weeks.
