An intimate and moving portrait of three generations in exile

A World Not Ours

Directed by Mahdi Fieifel

5 Stars

An intimate and moving portrait of three generations in exile, A World Not Ours is set in the Palestinian refugee camp of Ain el-Helweh in Lebanon, home to 70,000 displaced Palestinians.

In it, director Mahdi Fieifel returns with his camera to visit his relatives and his childhood friend, Abu Iyad, with whom he shares an obsession for football and Palestinian politics.

But while Fieifel is free to move in and out of the camp Iyad, like others there, does not have the same freedom. He is banned from work and education and his life prospects, along with his hopes, fade year after year.

A powerful exploration of the human impact of exile on the Palestinians.
