A former Metropolitan Police officer is to appear in court accused of indecent assault on a minor, Scotland Yard confirmed yesterday.
The summons against Gurpal Virdi, of Hounslow, London, follows an investigation by the force’s Directorate of Professional Standards into an allegation of an historic indecent assault of a male prisoner.
It is alleged that he indecently assaulted a boy under the age of 16, and that he misconducted himself in public office, between September 30 1986 and December 31 1986.
During his career with the Metropolitan Police, Mr Virdi was involved in a series of disputes about the way he was allegedly treated by the force.
He has been summoned to appear on May 30 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.
