Durham: The Durham Unite Community branch and Durham Miners’ Association (DMA) have raised the money for a new banner which will be hoisted high at this year’s miners’ gala.

Unite Community regional organiser Joe Rollin applauded the “extraordinary generosity of branches and members.”

DMA general secretary Davy Hopper said the banner will mark the 30th anniversary of the 1984-85 miners’ strike. “Unfortunately for the Tories we are still here and still fighting.”

 

Fatal Accident: Devon and Cornwall Police yesterday appealed for witnesses to an accident in which a 12-year-old girl died after falling from a wall at a youth centre.

Nicole Hartup died in hospital following the accident at the Phoenix Club in Burnthouse Lane, Exeter, on Friday night.
