Celtic fined €10k for standing by Palestine

Celtic were fined €10,00 (£8,616) by Uefa yesterday after fans displayed an “illicit banner” during their recent Champions League qualifier against Hapoel Be’er Sheva.
Fans showed solidarity with Palestine by waving flags before and during the match against Israeli opposition at Parkhead on August 17, drawing a charge from European football’s governing body.
The Green Brigade group of supporters set up a Go Fund Me page to raise the money, which as of yesterday had surpassed £170,000, which will then be “split 50/50 between Medical Aid Palestine and to the Lajee Centre, a Palestinian creative cultural children’s centre in Aida Refugee Camp, Bethlehem.”
The money will also help buy football kit and equipment to enable the refugee camp to have a team, which would be called Aida Celtic, in the Bethlehem youth league.
