RUSSIA demanded the US explain yesterday how hundreds of Isis terrorists slipped through its forces’ lines in Syria last week to attack the Syrian army’s rear.
Defence Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said the truce in the southern de-escalation zone could be in jeopardy. That was after US special forces and their rebel Free Syrian Army allies occupying al-Tanf on the border with Jordan and Iraq allegedly let 600 Isis extremists through their 65-mile-wide zone on October 2 and 3.
Gen Konashekov claimed the militants came from the Rukban refugee camp just across the Jordanian border.
And he alleged that by “strange coincidence” two large aid convoys entered the zone, only to be seized by the militants.
The Pentagon dismissed Russia’s accusations as “absolutely false,” claiming that the US “remains committed to killing Isis and denying them safe havens.”
