TEACHERS at a London school being targeted by academy chain Ark staged their latest strike yesterday against the takeover plans.
Members of the NUT, Nasuwt and ATL at Wembley’s Copland primary school took united action in the face of job cuts threatened by academy bosses.
All teaching was stopped as staff formed picket lines at 7.30 yesterday morning.
The strike was called after Ark academy bosses refused to sign up to plans negotiated with the current headteacher that could have stopped compulsory redundancies.
NUT school secretary Lesley Gouldbourn said: “We have been working so hard to prevent any strike action.
“Yet even when we and the school come up with an effective proposal, Ark refuses to agree.
“It is outrageous that this is allowed to happen when it is not even running the school.”
The determined teachers said they were ready to strike again next Wednesday unless Ark bosses stop sharpening their knives for job cuts.
