Srebrenica massacre mothers sue Dutch government for failure to protect sons and husbands

Mothers of Srebrenica group sues government of the Netherlands over weak role at 1995 massacre during the break-up of Yugoslavia, but is denied case against 'immune' UN

A group called the Mothers of Srebrenica has sued the Dutch government for failing to protect their husbands and sons during the 1995 massacre.

The civil case demanding compensation started yesterday. It focuses on the failure of Dutch troops serving as UN peacekeepers to protect Muslim men from rebel Serbs who allegedly killed 8,000 men and boys.

Judges threw out attempts to also sue the UN, saying the body has immunity.
