Dodgy tests ‘flood roads with bad taxi drivers’

“BOGUS” private hire driving test centres are flooding London’s roads with hundreds of incompetent taxi drivers, general union GMB warned yesterday.

Investigations by transport authority Transport for London (TfL) has revealed that 70 per cent of private hire drivers passed by test centres failed when retested by TfL.

A total of 137 centres were investigated, leading to 16 being suspended and a further 27 centres ceasing testing altogether.

GMB professional drivers branch secretary Steve Garelick said: “Consistent complaints by other road users since the boom in driver numbers only goes to show what the charlatans in bogus test centres caused.

“The bigger question is whether medical records provided by these same centres for licensing are compromised too.

“TfL is now beefing up the process and will be seeking to accredit centres and have TfL invigilators oversee future tests later this year.”
