Belgium-based fusion group Jaune Toujours could best be described as a funk brass band who flit between rock and punk, chanson, Balkan gypsy music and South American Latin.
The end result is very neo-cabaret, a soundtrack to walking through a busy continental piazza.
But they're at their best when they stick to the French language - a smattering of English-sung tunes sound less authentic and too jokey.
Thus the great opener C'est Parti is dampened somewhat by the trivial All Eyes.
Yet Routes is progressive enough to make the album an intriguing listen and Jaune Toujours, who have largely operated beneath the radar, are possibly one of the most ambitious fusion groups around.
The release is in a sumptuous book format that includes some fine photography from around the world and that certainly give it an edge over your average MP3 download.
