ISRAELI troops shot dead a Palestinian man who attacked them with a screwdriver yesterday, as damning evidence of agent-provocateur tactics emerged.
The man wounded four Israelis, including a female soldier, near a busy Tel Aviv road before being shot dead, police spokeswoman Luba Samri said. The attacker was not identified.
Three other Israelis were injured in similar attacks in Jerusalem and the West Bank.
Palestinian protesters clashed with Israeli forces again yesterday in a number of locations in the West Bank, as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu banned his own ministers from visiting the Temple Mount, the focus of the unrest.
Four Israelis and six Palestinians have been killed in the past week, including 13-year-old Abed al-Rahman Obeidallah on Tuesday, with more than 130 Palestinians wounded.
A video emerged on Wednesday showing undercover Israeli police egging on young Palestinians during clashes with heavily armed soldiers.
The video shot by an Agence France Presse cameraman clearly shows disguised officers throwing stones at troops before drawing pistols to shoot at genuine protesters.
On Wednesday Palestinian MP Mustafa Barghouti urged the Palestinian Authority to cease all security co-operation with Israel and support the “third intifada,” as some are calling the clashes.
“The Palestinian resistance must be supported by the Palestinian Authority … and must also immediately cease security co-ordination with the occupation,” he said.
“The third intifada has already begun. There must be no more negotiations with Israel as they have breached all agreements in the past.”
