Jerusalem: Teen shot dead in market attack on 70-year-old

AN ISRAELI policeman shot two teenage Palestinian girls — one fatally — in Jerusalem yesterday after they allegedly stabbed an elderly man with scissors.

The officer was near Mahane Yehuda market on Jaffa Street when he saw the apparent attack, and got out of his car.

Video footage shows the two girls running towards him, apparently waving scissors, before he and another man knock them both to the ground.

The officer drew a gun and shot both girls repeatedly as they lay on the ground, killing 16-year-old Hadeel Wajih Awwad and severely wounded her cousin, 14-year-old Norhan Awwad.

The stabbing victim, a 70-year-old Palestinian, suffered minor wounds.

Israeli forces also shot a Palestinian man dead after he killed an Israeli settler on a road west of Ramallah.

Another man was killed at a checkpoint south of Nablus after he allegedly produced a knife. A woman bystander was shot and critically injured.
