Hammered by rampant Spurs

Harry Kane brace helps Pochettino‘s men see off West Ham

Tottenham 4-1 West Ham

Harry Kane was on the scoresheet for the fifth successive game for Tottenham as they cruised to victory over rivals West Ham United in the London derby at White Hart lane on Sunday evening.

The striker found the net twice and typified the excellent performance from the hosts who were simply too strong for the Hammers and were every bit as dominant as the 4-1 scoreline suggests.

The first attempt of the game came the way of the hosts as Christian Eriksen’s strike from just outside the penalty area brought out a fine stop from Adrian following a spell of possession from Spurs before the in-form Kane broke the deadlock shortly after.

Following an incisive pass from Moussa Dembele to Dele Alli, the youngster’s shot was deflected into the path of his England international teammate and the Spurs no 10 expertly rolled Carl Jenkinson before slotting the ball into the net for his seventh league goal of the campaign.

The Hammers almost equalised straight from the restart as Mark Noble’s shot was charged down and the ball kindly fell to Cheikhou Kouyate, but his sensational acrobatic effort crashed against the bar before being cleared for a corner.

They were made to rue that missed opportunity minutes later thanks to slack defending from a corner which allowed Toby Alderweireld to double the home side’s lead as the Belgian headed home unmarked to leave the Hammers with a mountain to climb.

Son drew a smart save from Adrian and Alli headed the rebound against the bar then Kane fluffed his lines when clean through as Spurs threatened to wrap the game up before the half-time whistle.

Minutes after the interval, however, they were able to make the game safe as Kane’s shot found the back of the net via a deflection off Winston Reid and Kyle Walker’s wonderful curling effort in the 83rd minute rounded off an impressive result.

West Ham, who have already beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City on their travels this season, were rocked by the concession of the third early second half but did pull a goal back through Manuel Lanzini as he rifled a shot past Hugo Lloris at the near post in the 86th minute.

The result means Spurs still haven’t tasted defeat in the league since the opening day and move to within two points of the Gunners as the race for the top four heats up, while the Hammers remain sixth.
