Costume teams at Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet make PPE for NHS frontline

COSTUME teams at London’s Royal Opera House and Royal Ballet have turned their skills to making personal protective equipment (PPE) for NHS workers fighting the coronavirus.

The volunteers, including dressers and technicians from the production workshops, have made scrubs, hats, bags, ear protectors and face masks for NHS trusts and charitable groups across Britain.

Hundreds of items have already been supplied to those who need them on the front line, the Royal Opera House said.

Ballet wardrobe technician Carine Marrot said: “In order to make myself useful at home, help the NHS and use my sewing skills, I made a set of scrubs via a local workshop, where they had them ordered.

“I’m so pleased that they have now been sent and are being used by front-line NHS workers at St Joseph Hospice, as well as in care homes and NHS trusts in the local area, including Homerton Hospital in Hackney. They know to call me if they need any more.”
