LIVERPOOL RIVERSIDE MP Louise Ellman quit the Labour Party after 55 years yesterday in protest over Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership and alleged anti-semitism.
She jumped days before she was due to face a local party trigger ballot that could have resulted in her facing a reselection contest.
Liverpool Riverside will now join 20 CLPs to hold open selection processes following the defection or retirement of a Labour MP.
Jewish Socialists’ Group activist David Rosenberg said: “No tears for Louise Ellman leaving Labour.
“She has done a disservice to the fight against anti-semitism by accusing the most committed anti-racist to lead Labour of being an anti-semite.
“In reality she can’t stomach his radical socialist policies and support for Palestinian rights.”
In July, the allegations of anti-semitism made against Riverside CLP members were broadcast by the BBC on Panorama.
Jewish Voice for Labour said it carried out “detailed research” that found her claims were “false and emerge from political differences with local members that have nothing to do with anti-semitism.”
JVL’s Naomi Wimborne-Idrissi said: “We are publishing clear evidence of Jews in her constituency facing harassment because they oppose her unquestioning pro-Israel stance regardless of their human rights violations.”
