Eurostar staff striking to gain the London Living Wage

EUROSTAR catering staff are to strike over pay, their union announced today.

Members of rail union RMT are taking action to gain the London Living Wage of £10.55 per hour.

The staff are employed by catering contractor Rail Gourmet and are the only Eurostar workers not receiving the living wage, RMT says.

They will strike for 48 hours, starting on Thursday November 28.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash called for an end to the “disgraceful exploitation” of the catering workers by prosperous companies.

“It is a scandal that the workers employed by outsourcing firm Rail Gourmet, who provide catering services on Eurostar, are struggling to make ends meet,” he said.

“Both Eurostar and Rail Gourmet make healthy profits and it is an outrage that the workers who make those profits are forced to survive on poverty pay.”
