THE Tories will make funding cuts totalling more than £230 million if they win control of the Welsh parliament, a Labour dossier claimed today.
The report called the Secret Tory Manifesto identified areas of spending to be cut by the Welsh Conservatives on matters not devolved to Wales.
Senedd Health Minister Vaughan Gething said: “The Tories pose a very real risk to Welsh jobs, the economy and communities.
“From broadband to rail, from police support officers to tackling violence against women and girls, the Tory axe would see over £230 million slashed from Wales.
“Each pound that the Tories cut is a threat to Welsh jobs and the economy.”
A Conservative spokesman failed to deny the report but said the party had a positive plan for the economy.
The cuts would also include the £1.6 million Welsh Union Learning Fund (WULF) after the English scheme was cut by Westminster Tories.
Wales TUC general secretary Shavanah Taj said: “WULF provides working people with access to learning they wouldn’t otherwise have. It’s also great value: it attracts £4 in co-investment from employers for every £1 of public money.
“Any move to pull such vital support would be incredibly shortsighted.”
As the Labour dossier was published, the Tories reversed their pledge to scrap free NHS prescriptions in Wales.
But Mr Gething said:“Tory claims that they would keep Welsh Labour’s free prescriptions require more than a spoonful of sugar to swallow.
“And that’s why we have a duty to shine a light on just what a Tory Welsh government would mean for our economy and for jobs.”
