MORE pay strikes by NHS workers across England represented by Unite are due early next month, the union announced today.
Staff at three ambulance trusts — South Central, South East Coast and West Midlands — and workers at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, The Christie Pathology Partnership, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust will down tools on May 2.
The escalation follows Unite’s announcement earlier this week that its members at London’s Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital and the Yorkshire Ambulance Service will walkout 24 hours previously on May Day.
The union is currently balloting its health service members on the Tory government’s latest below-inflation wage offer, with a result due on April 28.
It reported “strong indications that many members are unhappy with the deal and is therefore preparing further industrial action.”
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham said: “The pay offer was not good enough for NHS workers.
“A lump sum payment and yet another real-terms pay cut doesn’t meet the challenges they face.”
Royal College of Nursing members are due to down tools for 48 hours from the evening of April 30 after rejecting the deal, while Unison members backed it.
