Hindus urge withdrawal of Ganesh print from British Leggings

HINDUS have urged a London online retailer to withdraw leggings that include a print of deity Ganesha from its website and apologise.

British Leggings is selling Ganesha Leggings for £15 with the description: “These beautiful leggings feature printed Ganesha God on one side of the leg.

“They are original, very feminine and have an edgy look about them.”

However, US-based Universal Society of Hinduism president Rajan Zed called the leggings “highly inappropriate” as Ganesha is one of the most worshipped deities in Hinduism.

He said: “Lord Ganesha was highly revered in Hinduism and was meant to be worshipped in temples or home shrines and not to adorn one’s legs.”

The self-described “Hindu statesman” called on British Leggings to apologise and withdraw the leggings from its shop, warning that such trivialisation of Hindu deities was disturbing to Hindus.

Ganesha is worshipped as god of wisdom and remover of obstacles and is invoked before the beginning of any major undertaking.

British Leggings has not responded to requests for comment.
