LABOUR has pledged to bring the country together to take on the challenges exposed by the Covid-19 pandemic and “seize the opportunities” of the future.

Ahead of a visit to Airbus in Bristol today, Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer said that before the pandemic the country was divided by a decade of Tory rule, but that the British people’s response to Covid-19 showed what can be achieved when “we come together.”

Sir Keir will be joined by party chairwoman Anneliese Dodds to hear from key workers who have used test aircraft to fly in personal protective equipment for front-line healthcare staff during the crisis. 

Calling for ambitious, transformative policies, the pair will launch Stronger Together: A Better Future for Britain — a major new policy-building project to deliver a “fairer, more secure future.”

The project sets out a roadmap for how Labour in government can deliver on its mission to create better jobs, champion new technologies, build world-class public services, and tackle the climate crisis.

Ahead of the launch, Sir Keir said: “The way the British people responded [to the pandemic] showed we can achieve incredible things when we come together: looking after our communities, getting behind key workers, supporting local businesses [and] volunteering to help our NHS.

“Labour wants to harness that spirit to start building a better future for everyone. A future where the government helps communities to thrive, no matter where they are on the map.

“We need to build a future that everyone in Britain can be proud of. Labour did it before: creating the NHS, introducing a national minimum wage, slashing child poverty and bringing peace to Northern Ireland. Together, we can do it again.”

Ms Dodds said: “The way our country responded to the pandemic showed the very best of Britain. It proved that we’re stronger together.

“That belief is at the heart of everything Labour does, and it’s central to the exciting, hopeful vision for Britain under a Labour government that this roadmap will begin to set out.”

The former shadow chancellor stressed “no one individual, party or institution” can achieve the change needed alone, adding: “None of us is as great as all of us.

“Let’s bring Britain together for a fairer, more secure future.”
