Libertines frontman Pete Doherty tells cheering crowds ‘don't let it be the Tories’

LIBERTINES frontman Pete Doherty delivered a blistering attack on the Tories at the band’s gig in Manchester last night, shouting “don’t let it be the Tories” to an approving audience.

“In this twisted society we live in, you’ve got to go out and work and graft to pay your rent,” Mr Doherty said from the stage.

“Sometimes they say you have to bend over and just take it. But don’t let it be the Tories.”

Chants of “Oh Jeremy Corbyn” also rippled through the audience at the gig on Tuesday night. The chant was likewise heard on national television from Liverpool fans during their Champions League match in Salzburg.

Labour councillor Kallum Nolan, who was in the audience in Manchester, said that the venue “erupted” in response to Mr Doherty’s comments.

He said: “It’s clear which way British music culture is swinging in this election — and that’s to Labour.”

It comes after musicians, including grime artists Stormzy, Kano and Ghetts, have overwhelmingly voiced their support for Labour — citing how the party “would improve the lives of millions.”
