London Overground safety officers to strike over pay

SAFETY officers on the London Overground are to strike over pay.

Rail union RMT said bosses were imposing a pay freeze which would mean “poverty pay” for the operator’s travel safe officers.

Safety officers working on the Arriva Rail London contract  – outsourced to STM Security – will strike for 24 hours on April 2.

The workers and supporters will stage a mass demonstration outside Arriva Rail London’s Head Office, adjacent to Swiss Cottage London Underground Station, at 10am on the day of the strike.

RMT general secretary Mick Cash said: “Travel safe officers offer security for passengers and staff against a background of increasing anti-social and violent behaviour on the railways.

“Our members do an important job on London Overground and deserve to be paid properly for the work that they do.

“A pay freeze for workers on a low wage is an insult and represents a pay cut in real terms.”
