May begs MPs to allow her Brexit deal to pass a fourth vote as calls increase for her to quit

THERESA MAY begged MPs to allow her Brexit deal to pass a fourth vote as she faced calls from Tories to quit over her latest proposals that include a possible second EU referendum.

In warning that whoever succeeded her would face the same Brexit pressures, the Prime Minister today called on MPs to back her thrice-rejected Withdrawal Agreement Bill.

Eurosceptics reacted angrily to the deal’s offer of a vote on whether to hold another referendum.

The 1922 Committee of backbench Tory MPs has repeatedly called on her to set out a timetable for her departure.

She has promised to set out a resignation plan after the next crunch withdrawal vote – expected to take place in the week beginning June 3.

In a Commons statement, Ms May appeared to acknowledge that her time in office was limited and vowed that MPs backing the agreement would see Britain leave the EU by the end of July.

“We can move on, move forwards, and get on with the jobs we were sent here to do, what we got into politics to do,” she said.

“Reject it, and all we have before us is division and deadlock.”

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said that her offer was “little more than a repackaged version” of her three-times rejected deal.

Nigel Evans, who sits on the 1922’s executive, said he would be seeking a rule change to hold another confidence vote in her leadership. Ms May currently is in the middle of 12 months’ immunity from another confidence vote after surviving one held last December.

European Research Group chairman Jacob Rees-Mogg suggested it would be “more dignified and more elegant” if Ms May followed the constitutional convention of quitting because she could not command a Commons majority.
