Meeting asserts that unity can bring transformation

SOLIDARITY was the message for more than 300 people who attended a Labour Assembly Against Austerity (LAAA) meeting on Wednesday night.

Speakers said that a Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour government would drive a major shift in how the country is run.

They included Labour MPs Richard Burgon, Dan Carden, John McDonnell and Laura Pidcock.

Shadow chancellor Mr McDonnell told attendees at the central London event: “We are half a million, we are not just a political party, we are a social movement. We have the responsibility to bring about a socialist government, it’s within our grasp.”

Ms Pidcock said that the labour movement would be “unbeatable” in “unity and solidarity.”

Mr Burgon said: “The best way we can collectively fight back against the establishment is to stick together and keep our eyes on the prize – a transformational Labour government.”

LAAA has asked supporters to sign a statement titled ‘Stand with Corbyn – unite to end Tory austerity’ at bit.ly/standwithcorbynstatement
