Milkshake man charged with assault and criminal damage

A MAN who threw milkshake on Brexit Party leader Nigel Farage was charged with common assault and criminal damage today.

The former Ukip leader was covered with a banana and salted caramel milkshake while campaigning in Newcastle city centre on Monday afternoon.

Northumbria Police said 32-year-old Paul Crowther’s criminal damage charge was in relation to a microphone that the European Parliament hopeful was wearing at the time.

Mr Crowther said his actions were “a right of protest against people like him.”

Wearing handcuffs, he told reporters: “I didn’t know he was in town, I thought this is my only chance.

“The bile and the racism he spouts out in this country is far more damaging than a bit of milkshake to his front.”

Mr Crowther will appear before magistrates in North Tyneside on June 18.

Mr Farage was heard telling off his security staff following the incident, calling them a “complete failure.”

Ukip’s Carl Benjamin and former English Defence League leader “Tommy Robinson” have also been doused with milkshake while campaigning in past weeks.
