Refuse workers’ strikes suspended after agreement reached

PLANNED strikes by refuse workers have been suspended after an agreement was reached in a dispute over claims of bullying and harassment of staff.

Unite union members employed by Suez Recycling and Recovery in Doncaster were due to stage a series of walkouts from December 15 after voting heavily in favour of industrial action.

Unite said that as part of the agreement a new CCTV and monitoring policy would be introduced and adequate training provided.

Industrial action will be suspended until March to allow for the new policy to be implemented, said the union.

Regional officer Shane Sweeting said: “Unite made it clear that workers were striking as a last resort and that it was fully prepared to enter into negotiations to resolve the dispute.”
