AHED TAMIMI will be joining thousands of people at a London march and rally tomorrow as part of a national protest for Palestine.

The 18-year-old Palestinian activist came to the world’s attention after being arrested in a night-time raid of her family’s house in the Occupied Territories for retaliating over sustained oppression.

Two days earlier, on December 15 2017, she took part in a demo in the Nabi Salih village with 200 other protesters to oppose the expansion of Israeli settlements.

During the protest, her 15-year-old cousin Mohammed was shot by an Israeli soldier at close range with a rubber-coated steel bullet to the head, which severely wounded him.

In response, with her mother and cousin, she approached two soldiers outside their home and were filmed slapping, kicking and shoving them. The video was posted on her mother’s Facebook page and went viral.

Ms Tamimi served eight months in prison for the incident before being released last July.

This weekend’s march is organised by Palestine Solidarity Campaign, the Stop the War Coalition, the Palestinian Forum in Britain, Friends of al-Aqsa and the Muslim Association of Britain.
 
The groups have cited Israel’s “Nation State Law,” which effectively enshrines discrimination against Palestinians into the constitution.

They have also condemned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s re-election promise to annex the West Bank as well as US President Donald Trump’s impending “Deal of the Century” that intends to create a “New Palestine.”

The protest comes just a week after one of the deadliest bombing assaults on Gaza since 2014, which saw at least 25 Palestinians killed, including several small children.

Palestine Solidarity Campaign director Ben Jamal said: “As Israel continues to flout international law and violate human rights, there is a responsibility on the global community to hold it to account and push for an end to the oppression of the Palestinian people.”

Stop the War Coalition convener Lindsey German said: “We are delighted that Ahed Tamimi is joining us in London.

“We have always shown solidarity with the Palestinians and she has become a symbol of the brutal treatment of children and young people at the hands of the Israelis.”

Labour MPs Diane Abbott, Richard Burgon and Lloyd Russell-Moyle are among those who are set to speak at the rally.

The protest will assemble from noon at Portland Place before marching to Whitehall for a rally.
