PRISON officers have re-elected Steve Gillan to lead their union for the next five years.
Their union POA voted Mr Gillan in as general secretary for the third time.
Mr Gillan won with more than half of the vote with 1,253 votes, with Laura Duggan second placed with 703 votes and Tom Nandy with 250 votes.
POA deputy general secretary Joe Simpson said: “I am sure the membership of the POA and the wider trade union movement will want to congratulate Steve Gillan on this election success.
“The POA and the wider movement will have many challenges in the future, and it is good knowing that our general secretary will be at the heart of that struggle.”
Mr Gillan’s elected period of office commences from May 2020 until May 2025.
