Three gored as bull breaks free from pamplona pack

SPANISH bull running festival San Fermin saw three people gored yesterday, bringing the total to eight injuries in eight runs this year.

A bull broke from the pack during the final run of the annual festival in Pamplona, flipping one man over its horns and slamming him on to the cobblestone street, then clipping another two runners who were trapped against a wall.

All three were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The San Fermin festival sees bulls let loose on the streets in the mornings for eight days, chasing people looking for an adrenaline rush, before being taken to the bull ring and killed.

Ahead of the festival, dozens of semi-naked animal rights protesters staged a performance simulating speared bulls lying dead on Pamplona’s streets to draw attention to the animal cruelty for the sake of entertainment.

Bull fights are protected under the Spanish constitution as part of the country’s cultural heritage.
