Widespread culture of bullying and harassment at Serco Caledonian Sleeper, union survey finds

AN RMT survey has revealed widespread bullying and harassment culture at Serco Caledonian Sleeper, with calls for operator Serco to investigate.

New research of members found that nearly 60 per cent had felt harassed by Serco Caledonian Sleeper management at work and nearly half had felt bullied by management.

The survey also makes clear the company’s internal processes are failing to protect staff from bullying, with 75 per cent of members stating they do not feel confident the company’s procedure on reporting bullying can deal with allegations.

RMT has already entered into a dispute with Serco over the issue and is demanding ministers meet with the union as a matter of urgency.

General secretary Mick Lynch said: “It is clear from the survey that Serco is presiding over a culture of bullying and harassment at the Caledonian Sleeper and RMT has serious concerns about the impact of this on our members’ safety and welfare.

“Make no mistake RMT will take all steps necessary to protect the safety and wellbeing of its members at Caledonian Sleeper.”

Serco was approached for comment.
