Wilko workers to take further strike action against ‘savage’ new rotas

AROUND 2,000 workers at two Wilko distribution centres prepare for another wave of strike action against the company’s “savage” new rotas.

More than 84 per cent of workers at the hardware chain’s distribution centres at Magor in Wales and Worksop in Nottinghamshire voted for further industrial action in a recent GMB ballot over rota changes which will force employees to work longer hours and spend less time with their families.

Strikes have been declared for Friday and Monday of the upcoming week, October 11 and 14 respectively. A further two strikes will also take place on Monday and Tuesday, October 21 and 22.

GMB national officer Gary Carter said: “These brutal rotas just won’t work. Wilko needs to change the rotas and rebuild its relationship with the workforce.

“Morale is at an all-time low and if the business wants to be successful it needs to value its employees and understand they need a better work-life balance."
