WORKERS and campaigners will gather across Britain this weekend as part of mass demonstrations organised around the world for UN Anti-Racism Day.
The actions in London, Glasgow on Saturday and Cardiff on Sunday are being organised by Stand Up to Racism (SUTR) and the TUC and will be linked online with other demonstrations worldwide.
It takes place as more than two-and-a-half million people have fled Ukraine since Russia began its invasion on February 24.
World Against Racism and Fascism, the international co-ordination for the day, is calling on European states to act on the refugee situation and allow free safe passage for all people, Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian, fleeing the country.
So far, 60 cities across 20 countries have actions planned for the day, with 26 movements internationally having signed the call.
SUTR co-convener Weyman Bennett said: “Around the world, the growth of racist populism and its interaction with the far right and fascism is a sharpening problem we face as anti-racists in our respective countries in one way or another.
“Amidst an ecological, economic and pandemic crisis, we see governments and racist, far-right and fascist forces utilise racism to divide people and divert our gaze from those to blame.
“We need to stand up, and march together in our tens of thousands on March 19 — Black Lives Matter, and we need to build mass anti-racist movements built on black and white unity to crush the threat of racist division.”
Coaches are being organised by local SUTR groups to travel to rallies.
In Glasgow, the protest will assemble at 11am Kelvingrove Park and London will gather at 12pm outside BBC Portland Place.
On Sunday, the action in Cardiff will assemble at noon outside the City Hall.
