XR joins forces with Grenfell United

GRENFELL UNITED and Extinction Rebellion (XR) are joining forces this weekend to fight for the right to protest and call for social and climate justice.

They will march through central London on Saturday as part of the climate group’s bid to expand the movement, “because this emergency isn’t just about Extinction Rebellion,” XR said, “it’s about all of us.”

As well as demonstrating against inaction on the climate emergency, the groups will protest at being labelled “extremist” by counter-terrorism police.

XR has described the move as an attack on the right to protest.

XR activist Monika Neilson said: “This march invites everyone who cares about the right to peaceful protest to join us in saying enough is enough to being called extremists for standing up for what’s right, enough is enough to racism, oppression and separation and enough is enough to the fires, floods and droughts that are destroying lives and the natural world.”

The protesters will gather in Russell Square at 1pm on Saturday.
