Men's Football Barcelona bid for Willian rejected by Chelsea

Chelsea have turned down a £50 million bid from Barcelona for Brazilian attacker Willian.

The Blues are against any bid lower than £80m for the 29-year-old and are refusing to budge on their valuation.

For a player coming to the latter stage of his football career, a final move to one of football’s giants could be ideal and, given an opportunity to play at one of the biggest clubs in the world, would be great for him as player.

But Chelsea won’t be letting him go easily as he is a key player in their attack, as shown by winning their player of the year in the 2015-16 season and Chelsea’s players’ player of the year in 2015-16 and 2017-18.

Chelsea purchased Willian back in August 2013 from Russian team Anzhi for £32m, a steal given what he has showcased since he joined.

With 113 appearances for Chelsea, 25 goals and consistently good seasons, the Brazilian has had an impressive start to the World Cup.

He grabbed an assist in Monday’s 2-0 win over Mexico to help Brazil through to the quarter-finals of the competition. It is not a shock that Barcelona are interested.

With more performances like those so far in Russia, there is no doubt his price could rise and Barcelona won’t have much option but to think about that £80m price tag set by Chelsea.

The future of Willian will most likely be decided after the World Cup has finished. We will have to wait and see what decision Chelsea and Willian make regarding his future.
