Like conquistadors
these loggers gold diggers
and cattle ranchers brandish the Bible
and the gun while stealing
the lands of native Indians.
Like conquistadors
they evict tribes animals insects
and living creatures from the jungle.
Like conquistadors
they are burning vast tracts of rain forest
polluting rivers and streams
where people drink and bathe in
raping the land for profit
Like conquistadors
they criss-cross the country building
more and more roads to transport
the visible, the invisible.
Like conquistadors
they bring death in their breath to Indians
whose bodies cannot fight the invisible
who have no doctors or ambulances
as the crowded river boats
take days to reach their villages.
Like conquistadors
they are starving raping and
killing Indians once again.
Meanwhile the world is busy
trying to control the invisible.
