Oxford is said to have more people in bands per square mile than anywhere else in the country and Cowley Rd is the throbbing heart of this buzzing scene.
The annual Ritual Union festival is a celebration of the street’s live music spanning five different venues and hosting 45 bands over the course of the day.
Alongside local stalwarts Pet Sematary, Julia Meijer and Candy Says, are electro punk-jazz luminaries The Comet is Coming, jagged ex-pop belligerents the Young Knives and the wondrous Afro-disco of Ibibio Sound Machine.
It just gets better every year.
