Poetry On The Picketline Sparkling Tea by Liz Gold

Inside the Fortnum & Mason
hamper is an operating profit
running into millions and a plan
to expand out to the Chinese market.

Elsewhere, employers are
Npowered to cut thousands
of jobs, because supplying energy
to the nation is less lucrative

than taking coal to Newcastle.
As if there were any pits still
operating in the north-east,
or anywhere else for that matter.

It’s not so much price of stocks and shares that interests us.
A fairer way of sharing our common wealth is what we are after.

Poetry on the Picket Line is a squad of like-minded poets putting themselves about to read their work on picket lines, in the spirit of solidarity. Invitations to rallies etc. welcome, contact facebook.com/pg/PicketLinePoets. The new Poetry on the Picketline anthology is available at culturematters.org.uk
