Christopher Chope has private members' bills blocked

Labour MPs exact revenge on Tory windbag who foiled upskirting ban

SEVERAL of Tory windbag Sir Christopher Chope’s private member’s Bills were derailed by MPs yesterday.

The former minister sparked anger last month after he stopped laws against upskirting going through the House.

So yesterday Labour MPs — including Gareth Snell (Stoke-on-Trent Central) and Ruth Smeeth (Stoke-on-Trent North) — shouted “object” to all 10 of his Bills as they were moved at second reading.

Mr Snell said on Twitter: “Most of his Bills are either garbage or deeply regressive so he very much deserved it.”

The Tory grandee had earlier claimed that objecting to a Bill was not a “commentary on the merits of the contents” of the proposed legislation, but rather a demand for “proper scrutiny.”
