A WOMAN confronted Boris Johnson today over his “fairytale” vision for Brexit after successive Tory governments’ austerity policies that “drained” her town of funds.

During a visit to Doncaster, the PM was approached by a member of the public who said: “People have died because of austerity, and you’ve got the cheek to come here and tell us austerity is over and it’s all good now, and we’re going to leave the EU and everything’s going to be great. It’s just a fairytale.”

In response to bystanders saying: “We’ll be all right,” she said: “I’d rather have a Labour Brexit than a Tory Brexit.

“Because you won’t give us workers’ rights would you? What are you going to do with us?”

The woman went on to cast doubt over Mr Johnson’s claims that the town would “get everything” promised after Britain leaves the EU. 

Meanwhile, Mr Johnson said that he was “cautiously optimistic” of getting a Brexit deal when he meets European Commission president Jean-Claude Juncker and EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier on Monday for the first time since he took office in July.
